Jane Dominese
Name: Jane Dominese
County: Stourbridge, WestMidlands
Specialises In: I was born and grew up in Rome, but came to the UK (the Northeast) at least once a year to visit the English side of my family. In Rome, I trained as a jewellery designer at the famous Istituto Europeo di Design and opened my own design studio working with jewellery manufacturers in Italy, Brazil, Taiwan and China. I moved to the UK 26 years ago to work as a designer for a manufacturer that supplied well-known high-street names. I eventually decided that I wanted to learn some additional manufacturing technical skills and that the place for me to do so would be Australia! Needless to say I loved every minute of my one-year stay and the experiences still influence a lot of my work. On returning to the UK, I attended the famous Birmingham School of Jewellery before opening my own Handmade Jewellery workshop based in the Black County, in the West Midlands. My work has simple, clean lines, using primarily silver and fresh water pearls but also semi-precious stones and enamel. I only make limited edition pieces or small production ranges. My favoured techniques are: etching, patination, wax carving, die forming, forging and fabrication but I also use computer aided design together with milling for some bespoke pieces. All my jewellery is hallmarked in accordance with current legislation: with a fineness mark, Birmingham Assay Office's anchor mark and JD, my maker's mark.
